God, the creator of mankind, made man for a purpose which He wants him to accomplish.
This accounts to the existence of different talents bestowed on man to make use of as he Iives on earth and gives account of it on the last day.
While some people are born to be teachers, others are given the talents to be Doctors, Lawyers Engineers, Journalists, Craftsmen and technicians, Priests, among other professions so that humans will complement one another for the good of all.
The Bible in 1st Corinthians Chapter 12 Verses 7 to 11 quote, “The manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the same spirit, to another faith by the same spirit, to another gift of healings by the same spirit, to another work of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirit, to another different kinds of tongues, to another interpretation of tongues, But one and the same Spirit works all these things distributing to each individual as he wills”, unquote.
Regrettably, parents fail to recognize the fact that there are children who are Crafts, Arts and technological inclined and only need proper guidance and enabling environment to become round pegs in round holes.
In educationally advanced nations, Parents do take keen observation on their child right from the cradle to know where their interest, talents and abilities lie.
Such parents train the child in that line and provide the necessary facilities and enabling environments to make the child an expert and have his or her name written in the “Guinness Book of Records”.
Parents in our country today compel their children to go to tertiary institutions whether they are qualified or not for higher education.
They even at times secure admissions for their children and push them to study courses they have no ability or interest in.
Truly, many of these children could have been successfully engaged in welding works, Gold and Black smiths, Mechanics, Carpentry work, Vulcanizing, among others and still compete with university graduates as they can help to create jobs and reduce unemployment.
A society where ninety percent of her population are graduates, carrying files of Certificates in search of white collar jobs is doomed.
One glaring fact that people forget is that our buildings are to be erected by people. Vehicles, electronic gadgets and all other technical works are to be provided by people.
So rather than making their wards customers to West African Examination Council WAEC and Joint Admissions and Matriculating Board JAMB yearly, parents must critically study their children or contact Guidance and counseling teachers to lead their children rightly.
When parents beat and castigate their children or wards for non-acquisition of University Certificates, such children grow thick skins over other parent’s derogatory remarks on them.
Therefore, to address this wrong notion that everybody must attend higher institution, parents should endeavour to engage in keen observation of their children to know where their talents lie and equip them along that line so that they will be round pegs in round holes in their lives.
The earlier we know this, and toe this line the better for parents, the children and society.
