The Abia State Government has commenced the Second Phase of the Master Trainers Program for Secondary School Teachers in the state.

Speaking during the kickoff ceremony, held at Okaiuga Nkwoegwu Secondary School, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, said the essence of the training program is to expose Abia teachers on new techniques that would ensure better learning approach in the educational sector.

Elder Ubochi represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Sir Ikechukwu Oriuwa disclosed that the State Government has already trained one thousand, two hundred Master Trainers while the remaining eight hundred Master Trainers will be completing their training exercise in the next five days making it two thousand in number.

The commissioner while describing the master trainers as agent of transformation disclosed that the State Government engaged the services of Education Reform and Innovation Team ( ERIT) to train two thousand Abia Primary and Secondary teachers across the State.

He enjoined them to pay attention and take the training seriously and commended the Governor Dr Alex Otti for his avowed commitment towards the educational needs of Abia teachers and students.

In her remarks, the Director In Charge, Secondary Education Management Board, SEMB, Deaconess Hope Nwaneri said the training will enhance effective teaching and learning and class management among the master trainers.

Contributing the Project Coordinator (ERIT), Mrs. Chioma Osuji, said the training will also equip Master Trainers with twenty first Century learning skills and knowledge required to develop their capacity for effective teaching and learning.

In an interview some of the master trainers including Mr. Frank Uzor and Mrs. Ugonma Nwankwo described the training as a welcome development and expressed optimism that the training will go a long way to advance their learning skills and knowledge.
