The Abia State House of Assembly has effected some changes in its leadership and heads of Committees.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa who announced this at plenary said with the new development, the member representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, Mr Anthony Chinasa becomes the Deputy Majority Leader replacing the former occupant of the office, Mr Destiny Nwagwu who was sacked by the courts.

According to the Speaker, Chief Aaron Uzodike who represents Aba North will now chair the Committee on Power, Public Utilities and Water Resources while Chief Chijioke Uruakpa of Ugwunagbo is reassigned to chair the Committee on Trader, Commerce and Industry whereas Mr Mathias Ume of Umunneochi will in addition to his Committee on Budget and Planning, Multilateral and MDGs also chair the newly created Committee on Food Security and Nutrition.

Chief Emeruwa named other members of the newly carved out committee to include Mr Emeka Obioma, Chief Aaron Uzodike, Mr Dennis Chinwendu, Mr Anthony Chinasa, Mr Lewis Obianyi and Mr Okoro Uchenna Kalu.

The House also passed for second reading H.A.B 26: The Abia State Education Reform Bill, 2024 sponsored by Mr Anthony Chinasa of Umuahia Central.

The Bill was further committed to the House Committee on Education to conduct public hearing on it and revert back to the House within 3 weeks.
