The Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti has restated his administration’s commitment towards providing the needed support to security agencies in the state.

Governor Otti who stated this when he received the new state controller of correctional service, Mr Henry Onyenze, at Government House Umuahia, promised to support the new state Comptroller to enable him to succeed in office.

The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba while welcoming the new state Controller of Correctional Service to Abia, also appreciated the strategic role the Nigerian Correctional Service play as a centre for character reformation and reintegration.

The State Chief Executive further applauded the Officers of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Abia State Command for their hard work and determination and encouraged them to continue to show courage and tenacity in the discharge of their duties.

In his speech, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ikechukwu Uwanna represented by the Director of Public Prosecution in the ministry, Mrs Chibuzor Ehiemere said his ministry will be happy to receive a list for Amnesty to enable the prerogative of mercy committee look into it in other to decongest correctional facilities which is one of the major challenges facing the justice system.

In his address, the new State Controller of Correctional Service, Mr Henry Onyenze disclosed that he came to appreciate Governor Alex Otti for his unwaivering support and assistance to the NCS in the state, adding that his dedication to facilitating resources and programs has been instrumental in enabling them to achieve their core objective of providing a safe, secure and humane custody for inmates.

Mr Onyenze also used the medium to solicit governments support in the areas of operational vehicles, provision of palliatives, building of court cells and installation of solar lights to the remaining custodial facilities to improve lighting at night for the safety of the inmates and staff on duty
