The Abia State Government has stated its readiness to key into the Global Partnership for Education System Transformation Grant in line with its transformation program in Education.
The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, stated this at the state consultative meeting on the Global Partnership for Education for the System Transformation Grant by the officials of UNICEF.
Elder Ubochi expressed happiness that Abia is the only state in the Southeast and among the six states in Nigeria selected for the grant and assured that the state will meet the requirements for the grant, which will be channeled into improving the educational system of the state.
In his presentation, an Education Specialist with UNICEF Abuja, Mr. Saka Ibraheem, said the meeting was to inform and evaluate the readiness of the state to access the grant from the Global Partnership for Education System transformation aimed at improving the learning system, reducing out of school children based on the state’s priority.
Mr. Ibraheem explained that UNICEF would be the grant agent for Abia state and two other states, providing technical support, while the World Bank would be the agent for three other states.
He revealed that the grant will come in batches based on the states progress both in data collection.
In an interview one of the participants, Dr. Esther Mbuko noted that the project will positively affect state education.
