The Abia State Government has commenced the evacuation of heaps of refuse at Orie Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area to sustain its commitment to improving waste management and quality environmental care in the State.

Speaking while overseeing the evacuation, The Deputy General Manager, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, Umuahia Zone, Mr. Ambrose Jonah noted that the Agency will provide trash buckets and establish an office to oversee the waste management in the market.

Mr. Jonah pleaded to Abians to adhere to the directives of the Government and the law guiding the environment, as ensuring total cleanliness of the State environment remains one of the cardinal agendas of the Agency, pointing out that enforcement of bagging waste has commenced in the State.

He noted that the Agency has set up a task force that will tackle the attitude of people littering refuse on the streets and assured that anyone who engages in such attitude will be tried in the environmental Court.

Responding, the Traditional Ruler of Isiala Amapu Ntigha, Eze Jacob Akoma commended the State Government for the commencement of the evacuation of the refuse which has been there for over fifteen years due to lack of attention by the previous governments, stressing that the community and the management of the market will align with the Agency for constant evacuation of refuse in the market.

Eze Akoma who X-rayed the history of the market noted that the economic impact of the market can not be overlooked, considering the significance of the market and promised to ensure total evacuation of the refuse for the expansion of the market.
