The Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu says that the 2025 Cancer Awareness creation will take place in the State today, Tuesday, 19th November, 2024.
According to him, the wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti would be the keynote speaker.
Prince Kanu who stated this at Government House Umuahia, while addressing the press on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting, said that the event with the theme, “The Changing Face of The Enemy: Reducing The Rising Prevalence of Cancer in Abia State”, has the wife of the Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti as the keynote Speaker and Guest of honour.
He said that the event will feature advocacy walk, lectures and free screening for cervical and breast cancer as well as HPV vaccination and invited the general public to the event.
The Information Commissioner also said that the rehabilitation of the vandalized power installations at the old and new secretariat Ogurube Layout Umuahia, has been completed and would be commissioned next week by the Governor while the groundbreaking ceremony for the USAID water project has been rescheduled from 20th of November to a later date.
On the Light up Abia Initiative, Prince Kanu said that the installation of solar lights is ongoing in more than 28 locations across the three senatorial zones of Abia State, adding that the idea is to light up almost every part of the state before the yuletide.
He added that the road infrastructure agenda of the State government would receive a boost by the 25th of November as the Governor, Dr Alex Otti would flag off the construction of the Ntigha-Nbawsi-Umuala road located at Isialangwa North Local Government Area, pointing out that the State Ministry of Works has completed four new maintenance projects across the state through direct labour.
