It was a gathering of who is who at the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba last Saturday as all Anambra Communities residing in Aba celebrated her 2024 New Yam Festival.
Performing the cutting of the Roasted New Yam at the School Field of the Polytechnic, a former President General, Anambra Development Union, Aba Branch, Chief Albert lbeanu expressed gratitude to God for blessing them with bountiful harvests this year and prayed that next year’s harvest will be far better than this year.
In his welcome speech, the President General, Anambra Development Union Aba branch Chief Emma Nwakpadolo said they are happy to celebrate the 2024 Anambra New Yam Festival because of the many positive changes the present Administration of Governor Alex Otti has brought in Aba which are evident everywhere.
Also, the Chairman on the Occasion, Sir Greg Okeafor urged Anambra people and Ndi lgbo at large to imbibe the culture of cultivating Yam in large quantities and thanked the organizers of the Anambra New Yam Festival in Aba headed by Chief Alphonsus Udeigbo for the work well done.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Organizing Committee of the 2024 Anambra New Yam Festival in Aba, Chief Alphonsus Udeigbo thanked the Governor, Dr Alex Otti for providing them with a conducive environment for them to do their new yam festival and tasked Ndi lgbo to dedicate themselves to large Scale Yam Farming.
The ceremony was attended by the member representing Aba North Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr Stephen Akachukwu, the Mayor, Aba North Local Government Area, Mr Timothy lheke and many other dignitaries and featured cultural parades by various Anambra Communities, fund raising ceremony and presentation of awards to some prominent Anambra sons and daughters.
