It is quite incontrovertible to postulate that man’s proven three basic needs in life are Food, Clothing and Housing.

Everyone is aware that food, which includes water, is an indispensable necessity, if man must survive on planet earth. There will be no life for both man and other categories of animals, including birds, insects, and fish if they go hungry for a good number of days.

The other significant need of man is clothing, which can be defined as anything a person puts on to protect his or her body from unfriendly weather.

Clothing of course enhances the dignity and beauty of human beings. It has been observed that every tribe, race and nationality has its peculiar mode of dressing.

The other equally fundamental necessity of man is Housing. This could be defined as anything a man has built that offers him and his family some shelter from sun, rain, wind, animals and unfriendly intruders. Before civilization, man was said to have lived in caves. But with time, he discovered land, built modern habitats or housing accommodations for himself.

Today, man can build skyscrapers, estates and several other modern edifices to live in and for other purposes.

in Nigeria, the two tiers of government, namely the Federal and State, noticeably built some Housing Estates, especially for their low-income worters and for other specific purposes like the 1004 Federal Housing Estate and the Festac Village both in Lagos, and Gwarimpa Estate Aduja some decades ago.

And some of them are on the owner – Occupier basis.

This offered a lot of succor to government workers and saved them some Money in the area of payment of rent and brought them some peace of mind too.

No Nigerian Worker should serve for thirty-five years and retire with nowhere to live with his family.

Government across the board should therefore be alive to its obligation in this perspective as this will help dissuade corruption and financial malfeasance in the public service.

Here lies the need to commend President Bola Tinubu’s Housing Estates, initiative, the Renewed Hope Citizens and Estate Programme aim to construct One Hundred Thousand Housing Units nationwide with a focus on affordability and accessibility. Also the State Governors should follow suit to replicate the same in their various states as witnessed in Governor Otti’s Housing Estate Initiative.

it is high time that Nigerians, especially the workforce were treated with some honour and dignity. More so, amid the glaring opulence and flamboyant Iifestyles of some of our political and business leaders.
