The Abia State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the contractor handling the Umuahia – Ikot Ekpene road to within 7 days return to site and at least attend to the deplorable section between Umuana first gate to Ehimiri Police station failure which the State Ministry of Works should immediately move in and carry out remediation work on the sections to save the road users from the current pains they are passing through.

Announcing the decision, the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa appreciated the Deputy Speaker and member of the House Committee on Works for living up to expectations and wondered why the contractor handling the road project would not urgently intervene on the said sections to make life bearable to the people especially with the festivities around the corner.

The motion is sequel to a report to the House following an earlier Matter of Urgent Public Importance brought before it by the Deputy Speaker and member for Umuahia East, Rt. Hon. Augustine Okezie on the deplorable state of some sections of the road under reconstruction which has brought huge pain and loss to the road users and residents of the area.

The House committed HAB 23: A Bill for a law to provide for the establishment, Development and Administration of the Abia State Electricity Market and the establishment of the state electricity regulatory authority and electricity fund and other related purposes to its Committee on Public Utilities and Water Resources to conduct a public hearing on it and revert back to the House.

Speaking under personal explanation, the member representing Umuahia Central, Mr Anthony Chinasa who was recently announced as the new Deputy Majority Leader of the House, announced his decision to relinquish the position owing to personal reasons.

Mr Chinasa who appreciated the Speaker and his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him pledged to continue to work with all as always.
