The Abia State Government has called on Alumni Association of various Schools in the state to key into Government agenda towards instituting a viable and responsive education system.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu who was speaking at the Commissioning of a project executed by the Amazon Class of 1987 of Holy Rosary Secondary School, Umuahia Old Girls Association, described the development as being in line with the “Reclaim Your Schools Initiative” of the Governor Alex Otti’s Government.

He recalled that last year, the state government launched the “Reclaim Your Schools Initiative” a step aimed at encouraging the Alumni Association of Schools to reclaim and take ownership of their various areas of infrastructural needs.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Chimezie Ukegbu lauded the philanthropic gesture by the Old Girls Association Class of 1987, led by Mrs. Nkem Kanu and commended the group for setting a commendable precedence for others to follow.

In her speech, the National President of the Old Girls Association Worldwide, Mrs. Nkem Kanu represented by the General Secretary, Mrs. Joy EJim highlighted the project’s transformative impact on the daily lives of the students and urged them to take ownership of the project.

She described the project as a symbol of community spirit and dedication to the school’s legacy and commended the Class of 1987, led by Mrs. Nkem Kanu, for their generosity and commitment to revitalizing a critical part of the school.

Responding on behalf of the Staff and Students, the School Captain, Miss Sophia Chukwuemeka, expressed gratitude to the Amazon Class of 1987 for their contribution and promised to tow their line as good Ambassadors of the School.
