Officers and Men of the Abia State Community Policing and Vigilante have been extolled for their immense contributions towards making various communities and the state secure by providing vital intelligence to other security outfits, which enabled them to be proactive.
The Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who disclosed this while speaking during the 2024 End-of-Year party of the State Command of the State Community Policing at Mgboko Headquarters, said that his administration is aware of the challenges they face and has taken steps to provide them with conducive working conditions.
He noted that the level of synergy between the Community Policing Arm and other security agencies has contributed to the peaceful and secure state that Abians are enjoying.
Governor Otti, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Navy Commodore MacDonald Ubah RTD, said that the members have shown dedication, resilience, and doggedness in discharging their selfless services, which have incapacitated non-state actors in the state, and urged them not to relent.
In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Peter Azubuike, encouraged the members to maintain good conduct, particularly the Obingwa Command, considering the many flashpoints of the area as a border community.
He stressed that their continuous unity and commitment will consolidate their achievements, while donating a Sienna, motorcycle, and cash to assist the command.
The Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Chief Maxwell Nwadike, disclosed that the enormous task of the Community Policing and Vigilante requires the support of everyone. He revealed that plans are ongoing to address their challenges, which include monthly stipends, operational vehicles, motorcycles, and other protective tools.
Presenting his address, the State Commander of the Abia State Community Policing and Vigilante, Apostle Daniel Iheadindueme, explained that the security arm has been facing financial and logistical challenges in delivering effective services at the local level and expressed hope that the state government will assist them in overcoming these challenges.
In their separate speeches, the State Patron of the security outfit, Chief Uzochukwu Nkuzo; the traditional ruler of Abala Autonomous Community, Eze Chimaeze Nwokenne and the Matron, Mrs. Ucha Ulasi, advised the members of the Community Policing to avoid engaging in activities that would dishonor the agency and to obey the constituted leadership of the State Command.
They also expressed appreciation for Apostle Iheadindueme’s sacrifice, humility, and purposeful leadership since the inception of the security body and urged further collaboration.
Our Aba Zonal correspondent reports that the party, which attracted other security representatives and personalities across the state, the State Patron of Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante, Chief Dr Uzochukwu Nkwuzor, featured a lecture by Mr. Ngwuta Patrick, Deputy Commander of Narcotics, NDLEA Abia State Command, the decoration of officers and patrons of the security outfit, as well as the inauguration of state officers, among other activities.
