The Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti has called on stakeholders, policy makers, faith-based Organizations and Traditional Rulers to partner government in the fight against harmful norms and practices against Widows in the state.

Mrs. Otti who made the call at the Aba South Local Government Headquarters during the inauguration of the State Advisory Council and commissioning of the State’s Executive Committee of the Widows Organization International Abia State Chapter, said widows rights must be restored in Abia.

The Wife of the Governor further disclosed the commitment of Dr. Alex Otti’s administration in ensuring brighter future for widows adding that widowhood is a reality, many face as a result of life’s unpredictability.

She maintained that they have right to their husband’s property, right to raise their children and live with dignity without interference.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Maureen Aghukwa appreciated the government of Dr. Alex Otti for recognizing women in his administration and for initiating vocational training programmes to help widows gain valuable skills and achieve financial independence.

In his speech, the Mayor, Aba South Local Government Area, Chief Obilor Anyanwu lauded the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Otti for prioritizing the welfare of widows in the state, and promised the Local Government’s readiness to support in the fight against widows or maltreatment in Abia.
