The Monthly Sanitation Exercise for the month of December holds on Saturday between seven to ten o’clock in the morning.

A release signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna says movement of people and vehicles during the period will be restricted, except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

According to the release, Chairman of the Local Government Councils, Traditional Rulers, Town Union Leader, Religious Leaders, Youth and Women Organizations in the state are required to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise.

The release directs all market, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises to remain closed tomorrow between seven to nine o’clock in the morning to carry out their clean-up exercise.

The release enjoins the Nigeria Police, federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assembly at their usual places of take for deployment.

The release further directs the people to stay at home, clean up their areas and work with their nose mask, while defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the State Basic Environment Law.

It says the change in date is as a result of festive period and the need to keep the environment clean all through the celebration.
