Parents have been called upon to be active in nurturing their children.
The Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti who made the call at Government House Umuahia, during the Christmas Party, organized for Abia Children by her Office said that children are the joy of every home and the promise of a brighter Abia, stressing that they need to be properly nurtured for better future.
She further restated the commitment of the government of Dr. Alex Otti in prioritizing quality education for Abia children, ensuring free compulsory education, adding that children are meant to be nurtured, protected and given opportunities.
In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Maureen Aghukwa represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Ogechi Oguama extolled the wife of the governor for the initiative, and encouraged parents to live a life worthy of emulation as well as make themselves the first confidant of their children.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Blessing Felix and the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Goodluck Ubochi represented by the Director Educational Services of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Esther Mbuko encouraged parents to remain committed in supporting the present administration to give Abia children quality education.
The event which featured the cutting of Christmas cake, dance competitions and distribution of Christmas gifts to children, attracted the presence of the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Emetu and other top government officials.
