The Abia State Government, has directed organizers of programmes and events to ensure they put in place adequate safety measures particularly this yuletide, to avoid stampedes that may lead to loss of lives.
In a release by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Government noted with dismay the frightening upsurge in cases of stampedes witnessed in different parts of the country, especially this season.

The Government advised event organizers that would require large crowd of people, to contact the State Homeland Security or Local Government Authority and other security Agencies for necessary guidelines and support to ensure safety of lives.
According to the release, Government would take action against anyone or group who ignores these directives.
The release also warns against any unethical practice like spraying or throwing of money or gift items into the crowd given its propensity to lead to stampede.
The release further conveys Governor Alex Otti’s sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones in the stampedes that happened in Anambra and Oyo States, as well as Abuja.
