Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, says he is determined to revitalize critical infrastructures in the state especially in the health and education sectors to improve the well-being of Abians.

The Governor who stated this through the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche, during the 2024 Akoliufu Alayi Day Celebration held at the Alayi Central School Play Field, Alayi in Bende Local Government Area.

He urged the people to take advantage of the law mandating every child of school age in the state to be in school from this term and added that the retrofitting of the Umunnato General Hospital to make it functional will not be abandoned.
The Governor appreciated the people for coming together to compliment government efforts in developing their area.

In their separate speeches, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Emmanuel Okorie, represented by Chief Titus O. O. Okoronkwo, the Chairman, Alayi Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Christopher Ukoma, and Eze David Ufere, while calling for more government presence in the area, applauded the Governor for appointing some Alayi sons into positions of trust in his administration.

Speaking, the President General, Alayi Development Union, Mr. Chris Ndubuisi –Eke, lauded the zeal of the people for the development of their community as could be noticed by the many self-help projects embarked upon by them and urged them to sustain it.

In their separate addresses, the President General, Akoliufu Alayi Development Union Worldwide, Chief Uchechukwu Kalu and the Chairman, 2024 Akoliufu Alayi Day Celebration Planning Committee, Chief Gabriel Okereke- Elendu, said aside strengthening communal bonds and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the people, the biennial event provided them with the opportunity of coming together to drive the development of their community and appreciated the State Government and all for identifying with them.

Highlights of the event which attracted the presence of the Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Iheke, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Traditional Rulers, among others featured presentation of certificate of Traditional “Igboto Nma” to some deserving elders, display by the newly admitted Unified Age Grades and Launch for the Community Projects.
