Abia State Government says it will henceforth enforce the State Basic Environmental Law against any hospitality industry or households that channel waste pipe on public drains.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna who disclosed this while addressing operators of hospitality Industry, Eateries, Event Centres and Tourism Industry in Umuahia, reminded them of the need to operate in accordance with the acceptable environmental standard.
The Commissioner enjoined them to provide facility for the collection of waste before disposal, rather than channeling the waste on public drains which are hazardous to the environment as well as the roads.
Mr. Ogbonna who acknowledged the giant strides of the present administration in creating conducive environment for business to thrive in the state, through security, massive road construction and rehabilitation, urged them to support government efforts in making the state, the cleanest state in the country.
He explained that the ministry has launched inspection of the facilities in the state pointing out that violators will be made to face the consequences in-line with the State Basic Environmental Law.
