The General Manager, Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission ASOPADEC, Dr Joshua Onyeike, has restated the Commission’s commitment in partnering Oil companies operating in the State for more interventions in the oil producing communities.

Speaking with Newsmen in Umuahia, Dr. Onyeike said the Commission is already engaging Millennium Oil and Gas Company operating in Ukwa West LGA as directed by the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti to embark on developmental projects that will impact positively on the lives of the host communities.

The General Manager disclosed that the Commission has completed more than 11 water boreholes aimed at providing communities in the hinterland with good drinking water and reduce water borne diseases.

Dr Onyeike said that the Commission has reconstructed some roads, Civic Halls, Classroom blocks, 160 open stalls at Orie Market, Umuajoha Obuzor Asa while the construction work at Asa Civic Centre is nearing completion.

On human capital development, the ASOPADEC Boss expressed satisfaction that over one hundred students have graduated from the scholarship scheme of the Commission while over 100 students registered for the 2024 WAEC and JAMB are already benefiting from the scheme.

He pointed out that the Commission engages in health care and environmental activities within the host communities, as it has funded the retrofitting of eye care Centre at the General hospital Okeikpe and embarked on constant refuse disposals, desilting of drainages and fumigation of select schools and assured that the Commission will not relent in complementing the developmental efforts of Governor Otti.
