A Coalition of Civil Society in Aba has called on the Federal Government, South East Governors Forum and the Non State Actors to prioritize the welfare and security of the people in the South East Zone of the Country.

Speaking in an interview, the Spokesperson and the Executive Director, Youths and Students Advocates for Development Initiative, Mr. Obinna Nwagbara said the call has become necessary following the degree of losses and devastation in the area for the past four years due to some agitations noting that dialogue is the only useful instrument to achieve peace in the region.

He noted that the timely intervention of these bodies particularly in the Monday sit-at-home will be a great relief considering the systematic disruption it has brought in the Education Sector which is jeopardizing the future of the school children, as well as causing economic losses and devastating condition of the vulnerable such as the women, children, and girls.

The group also explained that at the State and local government levels of the South East, there has been visionary and honest leadership that should be replicated at the Federal level noting that the agitation of marginalization over the years has been an impediment on the development of the region resulting to the high level of poverty, youth unemployment and distrust on the leadership at all levels.

The Coalition Group commended President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the Southeast Development Commission and expressed optimism that the federal government will in collaboration with the State and Local Government ensure that the commission delivers on its mandate.
