Abia State Government has assured that the proposed recruitment of both Primary and Secondary School teachers in the State will be on merit based.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu who gave the assurance while featuring in a BCA radio programme ‘Executive Brief’ said the teachers’ recruitment is part of the ongoing reforms and the State of emergency earlier declared in the education sector.
Prince Kanu noted that the recruitment is going to be online, pointing out that the qualified ones will be called to take computer Based Test as part of their screening and made it known that people with qualification ranging from NCE, BSC and Masters Degrees will be recruited.
He revealed that the exercise is to match up enrolment in public Schools as well as the teachers to student’s ratio and called on Abians to apply so as to enjoy the benefits of the teaching profession.
The Information Boss pointed out that the exercise will help teachers focus on their areas of specialization adding that the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will be given attention.
