A devastating fire broke out last night, destroying goods valued at millions of naira and damaging properties at a wholesale shop located at Ihie Ndume Ibeku along Ikot Ekpene Road in Umuahia.

Speaking to our correspondent, who visited the scene, the shop owner, Mr. Chimechefulam Ukaegbu Michael, expressed his shock over the incident but could not determine the exact cause of the fire. He referred to the tragedy as a major setback.
Mr. Michael, a prominent Labour Party Chieftain, recalled that he was at home around 11pm when he received news that his shop was engulfed in flames. Upon arriving at the scene, he discovered that all his goods, including refrigerators and other properties, had been completely destroyed.
He further explained that all electrical appliances had been removed from the premises before the close of business that day, and despite the efforts of the state fire service, the damage was extensive.
In light of the significant loss, Mr. Michael appealed to both the government and well-meaning individuals for assistance to help him rebuild his business and continue operations.
