The invention of the Radio in 1895 by Italian inventor, Guglielmo Marconi was unarguably, the greatest technological breakthrough of the century.

It was in recognition of the role radio plays in presenting different issues that affect the people and society positively especially by shaping peoples’ opinions and promotion of peaceful co-existence that the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 adopted a resolution for the commemoration of World Radio Day.
Radio as an audio medium tool of communication plays a significant role in bringing information to the door steps of the public help in maintaining the security of lives and property as well as economic development.
Reliable statistics show that over five billion people across the world have access to radio with over forty-four thousand radio stations across the globe.
This year’s celebration with the theme, “Radio and climate change,” highlights the many roles that Radio plays in bringing to the knowledge of people issues of climate change.
As the world marks this event, it is pertinent that the producers of radio programs should endeavor to produce content that will positively use society’s diversity to achieve unity.
