Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has approved the upgrading of the Umunnato General Hospital, Bende to a Specialist Hospital to take care of general Health issues.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu who disclosed this while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu noted that the Umunnato General Hospital which would be known as Abia Specialist Hospital after undergoing retrofitting and reequipping brings to three the number of Specialist Hospitals in the State.

He said that the development is in consistent with the State’s strategic infrastructural development of ensuring that every part of the State feels the impact of the development agenda of the present administration.

Prince Kanu noted that the development also underscores the high premium the State Government places on the Health Sector with the vision to ensure that Abians have easy access to Hospitals and affordable Health-care.

The Information Commissioner while also noting that the ongoing retrofitting of two hundred Primary Health Centers across the State tagged “Project Ekwueme, “has reached 55% completion with about ten of them ready for commissioning.

He also informed that the World Bank Impact Primary Health Centers recognized works have equally commenced in most of the sixty-seven selected Centres across the State, adding that the World Bank Impact Project are different from the State Government’s “Project Ekwueme” meant to touch the 184 wards of the State.

The Commissioner for Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on monitoring and Evaluation, Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Njoku Ukoha Njoku were part of the briefing.
