Today, Abia State stands proudly with the global community to celebrate World Culture Day under the theme “Embrace the Journey, Shape the Future.”

Culture is the heartbeat of Ndi Abia. From the colorful Iri Ji festival to our timeless dances, masquerades, and crafts, our heritage tells the enduring story of identity, unity, and resilience. These expressions not only connect us to our roots but also power education, tourism, youth empowerment, and intergenerational dialogue.
Thanks to the unwavering support of His Excellency, Governor Alex C. Otti, the Ministry has intensified efforts to preserve and promote Abia’s cultural wealth. One such achievement is our cultural radio programme, which gives voice to traditional rulers across the State—reviving forgotten customs, inspiring younger generations, and keeping our culture alive in the hearts of our people.
As we embrace our journey through heritage, let us shape a future where culture is not only preserved but celebrated as a catalyst for creativity, development, and social harmony.
We invite all Abians to become proud custodians of our traditions—support our creatives, teach our values, and pass on our stories.
Together, let us honour our past, celebrate our present, and build a culturally rich future for generations to come.
Hon. Matthew C. Ekwuruibe
Honourable Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Abia State.
