Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has called on fathers to use this year’s Fathers’ Day Celebration to renew their commitments towards fulfilling the divine task of fatherhood as spiritual leaders and guides to their children in particular and younger generation at large.
Governor Otti who made the call at the St. Michael’s Cathedral Church Aba, during the Father’s Day Celebration of the church, enjoined fathers to be alive to their responsibilities as heads of their families.

The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, noted that as the father of the state, he recognizes the importance and unique role of fathers in the family especially in providing vision, guidance and ensuring the total well-being of every member of the family.
He maintained that the responsibility bestowed upon fathers by God cannot be abandoned by them totally for whatsoever reasons in pursuit of material wealth at the detriment of the well-being of the family in order not to have a dysfunctional home.
The State Chief Executive further congratulated the fathers on their Day and wished them and all their families well.
Preaching on the theme of the 2025 Fathers Day Celebration of the church, “The Father: Spiritual Leader and Guide,” the Cathedral Administrator of St. Michael’s Cathedral Church Aba, Venerable Innocent Ogbonna, stressed the need for fathers to live up to expectation and provide both spiritual leadership and exemplary guidance to their children.
Venerable Ogbonna enjoined fathers to ensure that they monitor what their children do, the decisions they make as well as exercise the power of discipline on their children where necessary in order to ensure they continue to grow in the fear and way of the Lord.
In their speeches, the Anglican Bishop of Aba, the Rt. Rev. Christian Ugwuzor and Chairman, 2025 Fathers Day Committee of the church, Sir Amanze Agada, while commending Governor Alex Otti for his leadership style and dedication towards the overall development of the state, described him as a gift to the state and prayed for God’s continued guidance and wisdom upon him.
The ceremony which featured prayers for Governor Otti, goodwill messages, choral renditions, cutting of cake also attracted the presence of the Acting State Chairman of the Labour Party, Sir Emmanuel Oti, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr George Chidozie among other distinguished personalities.
