The Minister for Works, Senator David Umahi, has commended Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti for his intervention on Federal Roads which has alleviated the plights of the people across the State.

Senator Umahi who was speaking during an unscheduled visit to Governor Otti in his Nvosi country home, said he is in the State to inspect some Federal Projects and some of the roads projects undertaken by the Governor especially the newly reconstructed Port Harcourt road Aba ahead of the planned visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu later this year.
While also commending Governor Otti for the quality of roads done across the State especially the Port Harcourt road Aba, said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given express approval to any State Governor who intends reconstructing Federal roads within their States as both Federal and State roads are used by the people.
He equally thanked Governor Otti for his encouragement in the construction of the Umuahia and Aba sections of the Enugu Port Harcourt road and announced that the two carriage ways Aba-Port Harcourt road which is less than a kilometer completed will be commissioned by November this year.
The Works Minister who noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited 2,604 roads across the Country, appealed to State Governors to assist the Federal Government in alleviating the plights of road users by undertaking the reconstruction of Federal roads in their States.
While also noting that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated enough love for Ndigbo as can be attested to by multiple road Projects and others ongoing across the South East States, also called on Ndigbo to reciprocate the gesture by keying behind the re-election of the President in 2027 as he has done a lot towards relaunching the Zone to the mainstream of the Federal Government.
Receiving the Minister and his team, the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government in delivering key infrastructural projects with great impact on the lives of the people.
The Governor while recounting his visit to Abuja to secure the President’s approval to reconstruct the deplorable Port-Harcourt road Aba upon assumption of office, noted that the road has been completed in one and half year after securing Federal Government approval and would have been commissioned by the President if not for his visit to Vatican City while a new date would soon be agreed upon with the Presidency for the commissioning.
He also disclosed that similar approvals were secured for other critical roads such as the Abia Tower-Onuimo road, Ohafia-Arochukwu Road and the Umuene-Umuahia route, with work seriously going on on the roads.
The Governor while citing testimonies from freight forwarders who recently visited to express gratitude over the improved travel time for goods from Port Harcourt to Aba due to the completed road, stressed that what matters most is the delivery of quality infrastructure that benefits the people, regardless of whether the credit goes to the Federal or State Government.
Our correspondent reports that the Minister of Works who came with the Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, Mrs Chioma Nweze among others had earlier inspected some Federal Projects including the Aba section of the Enugu Port Harcourt road.
