All is now set for the 2nd Edition of the Abia State Governor’s Secondary Schools Unity Games, which will kick off on Tuesday, 29th July, and run through Friday, 1st August 2025.
Addressing journalists at the Umuahia Township Stadium, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, noted that the initiative was introduced by the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to discover and nurture sports talents as well as reawaken the spirit of unity among youths and at the grassroots level.

Sir Ananaba explained that the competition is designed to promote physical and inter-school sporting activities and to encourage students to excel beyond academics.
He revealed that the competition had earlier commenced at the local government level among various secondary schools, with the best teams now set to represent their LGAs in the state-level finals beginning next Tuesday.
The Commissioner added that participating teams would converge in Umuahia for the final stages of the competition, and assured that Governor Otti has made adequate provisions and logistical arrangements to ensure its smooth and successful execution.
In their reactions, the State Director of Sports, Comrade George Obioma, the Chairman of the Publicity and Media Sub-Committee, Mr. Francis Nwaubani and the Chairman of the Sanitation Sub-Committee, Comrade Hyacinth Ezindu, described the games as a clear testament to the Governor’s unwavering commitment to grassroots sports development.
They encouraged all participating teams to approach the competition with seriousness and determination in order to win laurels and bring pride to their respective schools and communities.
