CAVEAT EMPTOR/VENDITOR
The attention of the four indigenous villages (AMAOZARA, AMAGU, AMANCHO, AMANGBELE) making up the Umuenyere Alayi Autonomous Community have been drawn to a fallacious, divisionary, misleading and crisis prone public notice published in the Daily Sun newspaper of 16th June 2025 by some unscrupulous elements parading themselves as “Concerned Members and stakeholders, Umuenyere Alayi Development Union” claiming to be direct descendants of Enyere.
Let it be known that the forebear of this “Concerned Members and Stakeholders” known as and called Agbalato, consisting of Umuanyielu, Umuagwu, Umuanyiagbo and Amaba kindreds of Umuenyere Alayi Autonomous Community whose ancestral father’s real name is Oturu who was not indigenous to Alayi clan.
He was a witch doctor from Amavo Uturu in the current Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, who was invited by the four indigenous villages (AMAOZARA, AMAGU, AMANCHO, AMANGBELE) of Umuenyere Alayi Autonomous Community to work for them and the four villages thereafter out of their benevolence accommodated him.
It is common knowledge in Alayi clan that every kindred which is indigenous to Alayi clan must have their homestead (Onu mkpu) in Eke Alayi, these kindreds (Umuanyielu, Umuagwu, Umuanyiagbo and Amaba) which claim to be INDIGENOUS and ABORIGINES to Umuenyere Alayi Autonomous Community do not have homestead(s) in Eke to the knowledge of all adult indigenes of Alayi clan.
In fact, many of them who claim to be from Umuanyielu, Umuagwu, Umuanyiagbo and Amaba are actually descendants of forebears that sojourned from Item, Abiriba, Akaeze and other neighbouring villages and therefore alien to Alayi.
These unscrupulous elements have hidden under the guise of “Concerned Members and Stakeholders” of Umuenyere Ajayi to appropriate portions of the Ozara and Osula Umuenyere Land which is the common patrimony of the four indigenous villages (AMAOZARA, AMAGU, AMANCHO, AMANGBELE) to themselves and have also sold many portions of the land to unsuspecting persons and have appropriated the proceeds to themselves for which six of them were sentenced to one-year imprisonment in 2020 (Charge No: MU/18C/2019) judgement delivered on 22nd December 2020.
Obviously, their intentions are ill termed and deliberately aimed at perpetuating illegality, promoting corruption and illegal sale of Umuenyere land, hence we wish to put the records straight for proper guidance of the general public.
Be it known to all that the Umuenyere Alayi Development Union through its Land Committee is the only body authorized by the Constitution of the Umuenyere Alayi Autonomous Community to allot, sell and or alienate any portion of Ozara and or Osula Umuenyere Alayi land to any deserving person(s).
Therefore, any person transacting with these unscrupulous elements parading as Concerned Members and Stakeholders of Umuenyere Alayi does that at his own peril.
Furthermore, be it known that there is a subsisting judgment of the High Court Suit No HIG/11/2018 of Abia State regarding the management, administration and control of Umuenyere Alayi communal Lands, and only the Umuenyere Alayi Development Union, is bestowed with the mandate to execute such functions/duties.
The general public is hereby advised to ignore whatever caveat purportedly put up by the so-called “Concerned Members and Stakeholders” as they lack the authority and locus to deal on Umuenyere lands.
