Abia State is set to proudly join the global community in celebrating the 2025 World Tourism Day under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

The event, which promises to spotlight the transformative power of tourism, will take place on Thursday, 2nd October 2025 at the JACC Building, Secretariat, Umuahia, by 10am prompt.

The Honourable Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hon. Matthew Ekwuribe, in a statement, described the celebration as a platform to position Abia at the heart of Nigeria’s tourism future. He emphasized that tourism is more than just travel, but a gateway to sustainable transformation, cultural pride and economic growth.

According to him, the day will feature inspiring conversations, expository lectures, cultural showcases, exhibitions and bold strategies aimed at driving sustainable development through tourism and hospitality.

He disclosed that the event will feature two lecture topics; “How to Manage the Tourism Industry for Profit in the 21st Century” and “Excellent Customer Service: The Heart of Sustainable Tourism Growth.”

Hon. Ekwuribe warmly extends an invitation to hoteliers, travel agencies, creative entrepreneurs, students of hotel and hospitality management, stakeholders in the tourism industry and the general public to be part of the historic event, pointing out that the celebration will not only deepen knowledge but also build stronger collaborations that will transform Abia into a thriving tourism hub.

“Together, let’s shape a brighter future for Abia through tourism and hospitality,” the Commissioner added.
