ABIA – The State government says 9 out of the 63 schools under renovation and retrofitting across the state have been completed and ready for use while the remaining 54 are at various stages of completion.

Abia Govt Completes 9 Schools Under Renovation,  Trains 100 Teachers for Smart School Operations

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who announced this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, said that the gesture is in line with Governor Alex Otti’s agenda of transforming the learning environment across the 17 LGAs of the state.

He named the completed 9 schools to include the Nkata-Ibeku Community Primary School, Ibeku High School Umuahia, Ohuhu Community Secondary School, Amaogwugwu Migrant Farmers Primary School Osisioma and Umuagbai Secondary School, Aba.

Others are Abayi primary School Ugwunagbo, Owerri Aba Primary School Ugwunagbo, Omoba Central Model primary School Isiala Ngwa South and Abiriba Memorial Primary School Ohafia while work is seriously progressing in the 3 Smart Schools in the state.

The information Commissioner equally disclosed that one hundred teachers are currently undergoing special training programmes with a view to equipping them with special skills required to operate the smart schools when completed .

On road infrastructure, Prince Kanu assured that construction work will resume fully in all the construction sites across the state as the rains gradually subside, noting that work is ongoing in 32 contract sites and 55 direct labor sites.

Prince Kanu also announced that the Ministry of works within the period under review completed 12 direct labor works across the state adding that the Greater Aba Development Authority GADA, is embarking on the construction of two roads on contract basis including Aba ring road from Umuaduru to Okpulo Umuobo and from 7-up to Okpulo Umuobo all in Aba.

The Commissioner for Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi and the DG, Greater Aba Development Authority GADA, Mr Uche Ukeje were part of the briefing.
