ABA – The State Government, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Alex Otti, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Transaharan, has launched the Aba Export Growth Lab (AEGL) – a transformative initiative designed to position Aba’s entrepreneurs and manufacturers for global competitiveness.

The initiative identifies and supports a select group of CEOs from Abia’s thriving business ecosystem — forward-thinking leaders who are driving innovation, quality, and export readiness across diverse industries.

Among the distinguished CEOs chosen is Mr. Amobi Nwanagu, the dynamic founder and CEO of Pride of Abia Production – a footwear design and manufacturing brand recognized for blending African craftsmanship with global standards.

A Vision Rooted in Innovation and Excellence
Amobi Nwanagu, fondly known as the Shoe King of Aba, has long been a champion of local production and industrial development. Through his brand, Pride of Abia Production, he has consistently demonstrated that Nigerian-made footwear can stand shoulder to shoulder with any global brand in terms of quality, creativity, and durability.

His leadership experience as President of Leatherworks Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd and former Chairman of the Aba North Shoe Industrial Market (Shoe Plaza) reflects his commitment to advancing the interests of local artisans and creating opportunities for youth through skills development and innovation.

“This selection is not just a personal milestone — it’s a call to action for every artisan and entrepreneur in Aba,” Nwanagu said. “We are redefining what it means to produce locally. Aba is no longer just a city of craftsmen; it’s a city of creators, innovators, and global players.”

Driving Export Readiness Through the Aba Export Growth Lab

The Aba Export Growth Lab (AEGL) serves as a platform to build export-oriented businesses through intensive training, market linkages, product development, and access to finance. The program empowers Aba’s CEOs to expand their reach beyond Nigeria’s borders while showcasing the city’s industrial capacity to the global community.

Through this partnership, the Abia State Government, UNDP, and Transaharan are setting a new standard for local economic development — one that focuses on sustainability, digital innovation, and international trade integration.

Aba’s Global Future: Made-in-Aba, Sold to the World

As one of the CEOs leading this transformation, Amobi Nwanagu’s focus is clear – to position Pride of Abia Production as a flagship export brand representing the ingenuity and resilience of Aba’s leather industry.

He is also advancing plans for a state-of-the-art training and production facility at Aba North Shoe Plaza, dedicated to AI-powered shoe design and AI-driven content creation – a vision that aligns perfectly with the AEGL’s mission to merge traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.
“We are building a new narrative for Aba – one of innovation, dignity, and global relevance,” Nwanagu added. “This program gives us the tools to scale that dream beyond Nigeria’s borders.”
