ABIA – The State Government has approved the implementation of Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for Local Government workers across the 17 Local government areas of the State.

The state Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu who disclosed this at Government House Umuahia while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting Chaired by Governor Alex Otti, said the approval was part of the ongoing reforms in the State Civil service to prioritise workers’ welfare.

On the ongoing renovation and retrofitting of Primary Health Centers across the state, the Information Commissioner said that a total of 250 Primary HealthCare centers are expected to be fully renovated and equipped for use in the State by the end of this year.

He noted with joy that Abia citizens are now patronising the Primary Health Centers in line with the Governor’s vision to providing quality, affordable and accessible health to all Abians, adding that the construction of three world-class standard Specialist Hospitals are ongoing in the state.

Prince Okey Kanu said that the Governor has directed that the solar powered project at the SDG Hospital located at Ugwunagbo be operationalised immediately to enable staff and patients experience uninterrupted power supply.

He announced that the State Government, through the Ministry of Health, is collaborating with world-class hospitals in Sweden and other global health institutions on a number of medical outreach programs in the State to hold between 16th and 22nd of this Month.

The information Commissioner said that the second medical outreach involving the Abia Diaspora Medical Outreach Group will hold between 12th and 19th December this year while the third one involving the AMPA will take place in April 2026 , whereas the 4th one between the state government and Swedish Global Health Outreach will hold in may 2026.

He disclosed that the portal for the recruitment of Health workers has been reopened, announcing the existence of vacancies in the areas of Opthalmologists, Medical Officers, Dental Officers and part -time and full time consultants.

The Commissioner for Health, Prof Enoch Ogbonnaya and Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and publicity Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma were part of the briefing.
