UMUAHIA – The Director General, Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, BCA, Mr. Francis Nwaubani says the Abia State Government places premium on the health care of Abians alongside its strides in the other sectors of the economy.

Mr. Nwaubani who stated this in his office when the state Advocacy Communication and Social Mobilization Team on Measles and Rubella Virus, paid him a courtesy call, disclosed that the country has recorded a decline in Polio cases today due to the improvement in the health sector and immunization coverage.
He assured of the sustained partnership of the BCA with the Primary Health Care in sensitizing the public on the need to immunize children with Measles and Rubella vaccines and appreciated them for their commitment towards the eradication of the diseases.
In his speech, the Leader of the Team and State Social Mobilization Officer, Mr. Chukwudi Ukpabi, disclosed that they came to intimate the DG BCA, of the forthcoming launch of the Measles and Rubella Vaccination in the State slated for February next year and to solicit the support of the Corporation in publicizing the programmes.
Mr. Ukpabi regretted the issue of non compliance by the public that sometimes confront health workers which contributed to the increasing burden of the disease and pleaded for the support of the BCA and other critical stakeholders to ensure that the Programme records huge success when it will be launched next year.
Contributing, the UNICEF Consultant, Dr. Hyacinth Egbuna and the State Consultant, African Field Epidemiology Network, AFENET, Adaora Eneja, said the phase two of the immunization will cover the State, while children between nine months and fourteen years will be immunized.
They further emphasized that those without the vaccine are at the risk of being affected by such disease that can cause deafness, hole in the heart or even death among infants.
