The Abia State Government has announced the commencement of Operation Anyaogu, a comprehensive security initiative designed to strengthen safety across communities during the yuletide and beyond.

The General Manager, Abia State Homeland Security, Colonel C.K. Ukaoha, who disclosed this during the End-of-the-Year Get-Together organised by the Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante (ASCP), held at the ASCP Headquarters, former Modern Ceramics Industry, Aba Road Umuahia, said that the operation will run from December 20, 2025, to January 7, 2026, with a focus on crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across the state.

Colonel Ukaoha commended members of the Community Policing/Vigilante for their unwavering dedication to the security of lives and property, noting that Governor Dr Alex Otti is impressed with their commitment and professionalism. He charged the outfit to continue working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a crime-free environment before, during and after the yuletide. The Homeland Security boss further assured them of the state government’s continued support and encouragement at all times.

In his address, the State Commander, Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante, Apostle David Young Iheadindueme, said the end-of-year gathering was organised to appreciate God for His mercies, protection and preservation upon the lives of officers and men of the command throughout the year. He reaffirmed the outfit’s commitment to complementing the efforts of other security agencies in securing lives and property and maintaining law and order across communities in the state.

Apostle Iheadindueme lauded the security-friendly Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, for his consistent support, including the provision of operational vehicles, surveillance tools and other logistics, noting that the governor’s interventions have significantly strengthened the command’s operational capacity.

Apostle Iheadindueme further appealed to the state government and other relevant stakeholders to support the command with more operational vehicles and working tools to enhance efficiency and ensure seamless service delivery. He reaffirmed the outfit’s unwavering commitment and determination to intensify patrols, intelligence gathering and community engagement to nip crime in the bud.

He reiterated the outfit’s sustained collaboration with other security agencies in the state, explaining that such joint efforts have continued to yield positive results in crime reduction across the 17 local government areas.

The ASCP State Commander also appreciated his gallant officers whose vigilance, professionalism and eagle-eyed surveillance have helped to curb crime, particularly in rural areas. He also thanked stakeholders and well-meaning individuals who donated patrol vehicles and other resources to various commands of the outfit.

In their separate remarks, the State Commander, Civilian Joint Task Force, Mr Collins Nwosu, Ozor Gabriel Osuagwu, and the Chairman, Business Shop Occupant Association, Umuobia, Umuahia South Local Government Area, described the Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante as dependable partners in progress. They assured the command of their continued support and cooperation in the collective effort to maintain peace and security in the state.

The event featured goodwill messages from stakeholders and the decoration of some senior State and LGA executives of the Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante.
