As part of efforts to complement the humanitarian services of the wife of the Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, the wives of the 17 LGA Mayors have presented food items worth thousands of naira and cash to the Homestead Orphanage Home in Isuikwuato Local Government Area.

Receiving the women at the Isuikwuato Council Headquarters, Mbalano, during a courtesy call, the Mayor of the LGA, Mr Chinedu Ekeke, commended the wives of the Mayors for their show of love, describing them as strong pillars supporting the Mayors in carrying out the mandate of Dr Alex Otti in grassroots development.

Mr Ekeke, who also doubles as the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), identified humanitarian service as one of the cardinal points of the present administration and urged the women to remain focused and sustain the tempo.

Speaking at the orphanage home, the leader of the Mayors’ Wives Association Forum, Elizabeth Onyeabor, said the initiative was aimed at helping orphans and the less privileged in society and advised the children to face their future with boldness and sincerity of purpose in order to succeed.

Also speaking, some of the wives of the Mayors, including Mrs Glory Maxwell, Mrs Janet Enwereuzo, Mrs Nnenna Nwaubani and Deaconess Chimdirim Dike, appreciated the founder and caregivers for the way they care for the children and encouraged the older children to look beyond their present situation and focus on God, who has provided them with a home.

Responding, the supervisor of the home, Rev. Amos Antoka, represented by a social worker, Mr Anyachi Ndubuisi, explained that the home was established in 2006 by a Canadian missionary in partnership with Mr Emmanuel Mbaka to cater for orphans and vulnerable children. He disclosed that four of the children have gained admission into the university and thanked the women for their visit, while also calling on other well-meaning individuals to support the home.

Items presented to the children included bags of rice, salt, toiletries, cartons of soap, cartons of noodles, spaghetti and other essentials while the wife of the Mayor of Aba North, Mrs Uzoma Iheke, also offered prayers for the children.
