A Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has formally commissioned the forty-six point three six kilometers Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Akara -Alayi-Abiriba road newly reconstructed and renamed after Late Professor Joe Irukwu by the administration of Governor Alex Otti.

The forty-six point three six kilometers Umuahia -Uzuakoli-Akara-Alayi-Abiriba road which connects four local Government Areas of Umuahia North, Bende, Isuikwuato and Ohafia is another giant step by Governor Alex Otti towards opening every part of the State to greater economic opportunities.

Speaking while performing the ceremony at the Unity Church, Uzuakoli, Former President Obasanjo said Governor Otti has through his infrastructural revolution and other landmark achievements within twenty-two-months in office shown example of good leadership.

Chief Obasanjo noted that what Governor Otti has done within a short time in Office is an assurance that better and greater things lie ahead of Ndi Abia, describing him as a man of quality and a team player.

He described the Governor as a prudent manager of resources and urged Abians to give Governor Alex Otti the needed support and encouragement to deliver more roads before the end of his first tenure.

In an address, Dr Alex Otti said that his administration is transporting urbanization to the Rural Areas to enable people live in their communities and enjoy a good life as obtainable in the Urban Areas with enhanced economic life.

Governor Otti noted that individuals and families are relocating to the State in their numbers as a result of steady improvements in Urban infrastructure, assured that never again would farmers suffer avoidable losses on account of their inability to transport their products to Urban Markets due to bad road network.

Dr. Otti promised that in few months time, his administration will commission more roads within the Abia North Senatorial District including the Nunya -Eluama road, Arochukwu -Ndi Okereke -Ozuabam road, Arochukwu -Ohafia road and the Section 3 of the Umuahia -Uzuakoli-Alayi -Abiriba -Ohafia road which will be completed in few weeks time.

He assured that his Government will continue to meet his administrative and development obligations as a government by channeling all available resources to where they are guaranteed to yield to the highest possible social return.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Otumchere Otti said that the forty-six point three six kilometers road flagged off last year for reconstruction was divided into two sections and awarded to two different contractors for timely delivery.

Mr. Otti said that the reconstruction of the road is in line with Governor Otti’s unwavering commitment to providing access road to Rural Areas and connecting them to Urban Communities and urged benefitting Communities to protect the road and avoid any activity that may jeopardize its service life.
