The Member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu, has announced a ₦10,000,000 Undergraduates Education Support Fund aimed at assisting students from the constituency pursuing higher education across Nigeria.

The intervention, described as a timely and strategic investment in human capital development, is scheduled to take place around the Easter celebration period, a season often associated with hope and renewal.

Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Iheonunekwu explained that the gesture aligns with the education-focused agenda of Governor Alex Otti, whose administration continues to prioritize policies that promote access to quality education and youth empowerment.

He noted that education remains one of the most powerful tools for societal transformation and sustainable development, stressing that supporting students today is equivalent to securing the future of the constituency tomorrow.

The lawmaker emphasized that the empowerment is strictly for bona fide students of Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency currently enrolled in various tertiary institutions across the country.

According to him, the fund is designed to cushion the financial burden faced by undergraduates, particularly in the face of rising tuition fees, accommodation costs, and other academic expenses. He assured constituents that the process would be transparent and equitable to ensure that those most in need benefit from the support.

For the beneficiaries, the ₦10 million support fund represents more than just financial assistance, it is a morale booster and a reassurance that their educational aspirations matter. Many students struggling with fees, textbooks, research materials and daily upkeep are expected to experience significant relief, enabling them to focus more on their studies without the constant distraction of financial hardship. The intervention is also likely to reduce the risk of dropouts caused by economic constraints.

Parents and guardians, who often bear the heavy responsibility of funding tertiary education amid prevailing economic challenges, are equally poised to benefit from the initiative. By easing part of the financial pressure on families, the gesture will help stabilize household budgets and restore confidence in community-driven leadership.

Meanwhile, stakeholders have commended Hon. Iheonunekwu for the thoughtful initiative, describing it as a demonstration of responsive representation and a practical commitment to building a brighter future for Isiala Ngwa North.
