Tourism is no longer only about where we go, but how destinations are discovered, experienced and remembered.
As the world marks World Tourism Day 2026 under the theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” Abia State is embracing the future by combining its rich heritage with the power of technology.
Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, we have discovered and documented over 55 heritage and tourism sites across Abia, bringing greater visibility to treasures within our communities.
Other key initiatives—including
- The retrofitting of the Ojukwu Bunker and National War Museum
- The development at Ibom Waterfall in Arochukwu
- The grading and classification of hospitality establishments
These initiatives are ongoing as we build a stronger, more accessible and globally competitive tourism ecosystem.
The next frontier is digital: making our destinations more discoverable, preserving our heritage digitally, improving visitor experiences and using data and Artificial Intelligence to strengthen tourism planning and promotion.
Technology will expand our reach, but our culture, people, history and natural heritage will remain at the heart of the experience.
Our ambition is clear: to build an Abia where heritage is preserved, destinations are developed, standards are strengthened, technology drives visibility and tourism creates opportunities for our people.
This is not just about preparing Abia for the future of tourism.
It is about helping to shape it.
Happy World Tourism Day 2026.
