Political stakeholders in Ukwa West Local Government Area have presented the Labour Party candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Chief Adinigwe Nwoke, to the Ukwa West Traditional Rulers Council alongside the party’s candidate for the Ukwa West State Constituency, Mr Joshua Ahukanna.
Speaking during the visit, the member representing Ukwa West in the Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Godwin Adiele, said the candidates emerged through a mandate initiated by the Asa Think Tank and the Asa Development Union, in line with the Labour Party’s commitment to justice, equity, and fair representation.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Environment and party leader in the area, Hon. Philemon Ogbonna, observed that there had been a communication gap between traditional rulers and their representatives in the National Assembly. He expressed confidence that Chief Adinigwe would bridge the gap if elected.
In his remarks, the Labour Party candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Chief Adinigwe Nwoke, recalled his experience during the 2023 elections, saying he had come to realize that effective governance is incomplete without the active involvement of key stakeholders such as traditional rulers, whom he described as co-leaders in governance.
He pledged to integrate the monarchs into policy discussions and decision-making for the benefit of the constituency if elected to the House of Representatives.
Receiving the delegation, the Chairman of the Ukwa West Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Chinyere Dike, commended Chief Adinigwe and Mr Ahukanna for recognizing the vital role of traditional rulers in promoting good governance. He assured them of the council’s support and prayers for the success of their political aspirations.
The visit was attended by the Labour Party Chairman in Ukwa West LGA, Chief Stanley Eche; the Assistant State Youth Leader, Mrs Pamela Ebere; officials of Abia Arise; and other party stakeholders.
The event concluded with royal blessings offered by the traditional rulers for the Labour Party candidates ahead of the elections.
