The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially inaugurated the new Governing Council of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), appointing Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council.

During the inauguration, Governor Otti urged the members of the Council to work towards elevating the University to become one of the top institutions in Nigeria.
The Governor described the current phase in both ABSU and Abia State as pivotal and emphasized that the appointees had been chosen as key figures to help drive the transformation his administration seeks.
“These are indeed significant times for our University, and without being overly confident, I must say that you have been selected as part of a team poised to bring about this change. You are all exceptional individuals,” Governor Otti stated.
He expressed full confidence in their ability to improve ABSU, declaring, “We are certain you will do your utmost to transform this University into one of the best in Nigeria, and indeed Africa.
“The State Chief Executive also congratulated the Council members on their appointments, highlighting their impressive track records as a foundation for success.
“This is a great vote of confidence. All of you are individuals of integrity, with solid reputations, and we trust you to fulfill your promises,” he emphasized.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the ABSU Governing Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, thanked Governor Otti for entrusting them with the responsibility and assured the Governor of their commitment to the task.
“We assure you that we are starting strong today. We will leave no stone unturned. We will not disappoint you, ourselves, or the people of Abia State. Our goal is to enhance the fortunes of ABSU,” Hon. Agwu said.
He further assured that ABSU would rise to prominence, declaring, “In the next three to four years, ABSU will become the leading institution at the state level.
“The inauguration ceremony was attended by key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, and the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Eme Uche, among others.
