The Abia State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU), with WIOCC an ICT/Technology Broadband Company for the installation of fiber optic/internet connectivity across the Seventeen Local Government Areas of the state.

Speaking during the exercise, the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti said that the agreement will see to the linking of the three major cities including Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia and all nooks and crannies of the state to the internet.

The Governor said that the formal signing of the MOU marks a turning point in the Socio-Economic Development of the state as the company will immediately commence survey of the whole state for the purpose of implementing the project in line with the MOU.

He noted that the investment would equally impact network operators whose Services would now be felt in villages and Communities with low connectivity spots.

The State Chief Executive also disclosed that the investment would help in the electronic transmission of files in Health care institutions, civil service, education, governance, describing the development as a positive step towards a new Abia.

He lauded the WIOCC internet Service Provider, one of the reputable interconnectivity and Infrastructural companies in Africa for considering the state for the investment.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Development Officer WIOCC Group, Mr. Darren Bradford said aside Lagos where they have done remarkable work, the company considered Abia for the investment haven seeing the dynamism and Innovation Governor Alex Otti has brought into Abia.
