The Abia State Community Policing and Vigilante, strongly condemns, the persistent destruction of farm crops and violent attacks on innocent farmers by herders across parts of the State.
The Command frowns at the recent incident at Mgboko Okpulor Village, Nne Nkute Area, Mgboko Amairi, Ike Mgboko Autonomous Community, in Obingwa LGA, where armed herders reportedly drove their cattle into cultivated farmlands, attacked farmers, destroyed their crops, and allowed their livestock to graze freely on already devastated farms. This act is not only unlawful but also deeply inhumane, as it threatens the livelihoods, safety and food security of our people.
The Command views these actions as unacceptable and a grave threat to peaceful coexistence as such conduct has inflicted untold hardship on hardworking farmers who depend on their farms for survival and economic stability.
The Abia State Community Policing and Vigilante therefore warns all herders operating within the State to desist immediately from trespassing into farmlands and engaging in any form of violence or destruction as any individual or group found violating this directive will be promptly apprehended and handed over to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Command also calls on leaders of the Hausa community in Abia State, particularly the office of the Eze Yaro, to take proactive responsibility by sensitizing their members and ensuring strict compliance with established laws and community regulations governing grazing and peaceful conduct.
The Command further reassures the good people of Abia State of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, property and means of livelihood in line with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, which prioritizes security, economic stability, peaceful coexistence and the protection of citizens’ rights.
Farmers are also encouraged to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities or threats to the nearest security formation.
Signed:
Apostle Daniel Iheadindueme
State Commander,
Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante and
Traditional Prime Minister, Ike Mgboko Autonomous Community, Obingwa LGA.
