ABIA – Governor Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transformative governance, anchored on transparency, accountability and service delivery.

Governor Otti who disclosed this at the Trinity Methodist Church, Isieke Ibeku, in Umuahia North LGA, while presenting a keynote address and declaring open the 2026 Annual Diocesan Synod Plenary Session of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Umuahia, identified divine guidance as central to his leadership.
The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, while describing the theme of the synod, “I Will Fight For You,” as apt, noted that it
serves as a powerful reminder of God’s unwavering commitment to defend and deliver His people in times of trial, emphasizing that the message calls for renewed faith, patience and total trust in divine intervention, especially amid prevailing social and economic challenges.

He commended Archbishop Opoko and the leadership of the church for its sustained spiritual and moral support, and called on them to sustain its intercessory role and intensify efforts in sensitizing their members on responsible citizenship and active participation in democratic processes.
The State Chief Executive, while delivering his Keynote address, drew a comparison between a fight and a battle and noted that while a fight is a small scale short-lived conflict between one or two people and is less complex in nature, a battle on the other hand involves groups and systems, is strategic and organised and more complex in nature. He said that in most cases, this results when people have chosen to gang-up in order to suppress the elects of God.
According to him, while God has enjoined the Christians to fight a good fight of faith in order to hold firmly to eternal life (1 Tim 6:12), when a fight graduates into a battle, God takes over the battle (2 Chronicles 20:17).
He asserted that the confidence every Christian who is walking with God in obedience should have is that God is not just watching over him or her, God is also monitoring the activities of their sworn-enemies (Exodus 14:23-24).
He concluded that anyone who tries to stand on the way of what God wants to do in Abia State through His Servant the Governor, will become a casualty just like the Egyptians that got drowned in the red sea while trying to immitate what the Israelites did by crossing the red sea at the instance of the word God spoke to Moses.
According to him, it’s not enough to see what one is doing and be consumed with the ambition of doing similar things without knowing the source of what is being done as is the case in Abia State presently.
The Governor’s representative noted that the Governor, Dr Alex Otti came into power in response to the earnest prayers of Abians and that no force of hell can unseat him or stop him from accomplishing the mandate of rebuilding Abia State.

In his welcome address, the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, the Most Rev. Dr Chibuzo Opoko, commended Governor Alex Otti for his administration’s regard for the church as a partner in moral rebirth, social transformation and sustainable development as well as solicited governments support in overhauling, reconstructing and equipping the church Guest house among other projects.
In his welcome address, the Chairman on the occasion, Prof. Udo Nwokocha, described the synod as the highest policymaking level of the Church and enjoined all to commit themselves to righteousness in order to achieve the theme of the synod.

The event which featured goodwill messages, presentation of awards to deserving personalities also attracted the presence of the Member representing Abia State in the Federal Character Commission, Chief Victor Ikeji, the Anglican Bishop of Umuahia, the Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, the clergy, traditional rulers among other distinguished personalities.
