The Bill seeking the establishment of the Abia State Anti-Corruption Agency has scaled through its Second Reading at the Abia State House of Assembly.

The bill, sponsored by the Member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon. Chief Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu, aims to institutionalize a dedicated framework for combating corruption and strengthening ethical conduct across the state’s public sector.
Presenting the bill on the floor of the House, Hon. Iheonunekwu explained that the proposed agency would serve as an independent body mandated to investigate corruption-related offences, enforce compliance with financial regulations, and promote best practices in public administration. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with global standards for transparency and would help foster a culture of integrity in governance.
The lawmaker expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming support and insightful contributions offered by his colleagues during the debate. He noted that their inputs reflect a shared vision for a more accountable and responsible governance structure capable of safeguarding state resources and restoring citizens’ confidence in public institutions.
Hon. Iheonunekwu described the bill’s progression as a significant milestone for Abia State, stressing that the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Agency reinforces the state’s collective commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance core values that define the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
