The Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu has inaugurated the newly elected Executive members of the Abia State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, with a call on them to promote good governance, transparency and accountability at the local government levels.
Prince Uzor who made the call in his Office, said that the election marks a new chapter in the state and described their emergence as a testament to their leadership qualities and the trust reposed in them by their Colleagues.
It would be recalled that the body of Mayors in the State had elected the Mayor of Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Mr. Chinedu Ekeke as Chairman, ALGON, Abia State in an overwhelming vote from all the Seventeen Mayors in the State.
The election also saw the emergence of the Mayor of Ikwuano LGA, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani as Secretary while the Mayor of Aba South LGA, Mr. Anyanwu Obilor is the Treasurer.
The newly elected Executives by their inauguration is expected to work closely with the Governor, Dr Alex Otti who has pledged to support the local Government in their development efforts.
