In a bid to promote the rich cultural heritage and untapped tourism potential of Abia State, the Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mr Matthew Ekwuruibe, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mrs, Matilda Anyamele and stakeholders in the tourism industry has continued to embark on visits to several historic tourist sites in the state.

The recent visit led by the Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mr Matthew Ekwuruibe to some of the tourist sites in Umunneochi LGA including the home of the Giant Alakuku in Umunneochi, Oso Eze Waterfall among others, was aimed at evaluating the state of these sites and exploring opportunities for their development into major tourism attractions.

Speaking on the Governor’s vision, Mr Ekwuruibe disclosed that Governor Alex Otti is fully committed to revamping the tourism industry in Abia State.

He explained that Governor Otti understands the immense potential that tourism has in boosting the state’s economy, creating jobs, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the people adding that as part of his administration’s development agenda, tourism will continue to play a central role in diversifying Abia’s economy.

During the visit, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mrs. Matilda Anyamele expressed her admiration for the historical significance of Umunneochi, a region known for its strong cultural traditions and iconic landmarks.

Her assessment was focused on identifying key areas where improvements could be made to attract visitors, both from within and outside the state.

The Special Assistant to the Governor disclosed that plans are underway to improve infrastructure around key historical sites, including better roads, signage, and facilities for visitors while actions are also being taken to develop these sites into world-class tourist destinations.

She reiterated that Governor Otti’s administration is keen on ensuring that tourism thrives as a vital sector of the state’s economy.

The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy’s visit to Umunneochi highlights the determination of the Abia State government to harness the region’s potential as a cultural and historical hub.

With continued investment in infrastructure and strategic partnerships, the tourism industry in Abia is set to flourish, creating new opportunities for the people of the state and attracting visitors from around the world.
