Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to security, emphasizing that without a secure environment, all other governmental initiatives would be undermined.

Governor Otti made this assertion on Friday, during a courtesy visit by Major General O.T. Olatoye, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu. The visit was part of the GOC’s official and familiarization tour of security formations within his jurisdiction.

“For us in Abia, security is paramount. While we are investing in infrastructure, healthcare, education, environmental sanitation, and the digital economy, security remains our top priority. Without it, everything else fails,” Governor Otti stated.

He stressed his administration’s dedication to ensuring that residents can sleep peacefully, even if it means his government must remain vigilant. “Our goal is to create an environment where our people can sleep soundly, even if we, as leaders, must stay awake to safeguard them. I am confident that my colleagues across the South-East share this priority,” he added.

Addressing Major Gen. Olatoye, Governor Otti acknowledged the challenges of succeeding a high-performing predecessor, noting that while it offers a solid foundation to build upon, it also presents heightened expectations.

“I am delighted to receive you today, especially with the glowing recommendations from your predecessor. Rest assured, you have our full support to continue and improve on the commendable work already established,” he assured.

Reaffirming his administration’s willingness to collaborate, Governor Otti extended an open-door policy to the new GOC. “Whenever you need assistance, I am just a phone call away,” he promised.

The Governor also expressed gratitude to the i the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for Governor Otti’s steadfast support of security agencies, particularly the military. He pledged to enhance the existing peace and security framework in the state.

“My mission is to further reinforce and elevate the peaceful environment in Abia to foster improved socio-economic development,” Major Gen. Olatoye assured.

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, retired Navy Commander MacDonald Uba, joined him in receiving Major Gen. Olatoye and his delegation.

Brigadier General Hassan Mohammed Bello, Commander of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for his unwavering support and for accommodating their visit on short notice. “We truly appreciate your hospitality and commitment to our shared security goals,” he stated.

With this renewed collaboration between the state government and security agencies, Abia residents can look forward to a safer and more secure environment.
