The Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba has restated the state governments readiness to partner the National Optometry Association NOA in improving the visual health status of Abians.

Pastor Ajagba who gave the charge at Government House Umuahia when he received the State Executive of NOA, charged them to also remain focused on improving the entire eye care delivery system across the nation.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor who described the eyes as the bedrock of vision, disclosed that Governor Alex Otti has continued to show greater commitment in providing Abians with quality healthcare by establishing the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau headed by Dr Betty Emaka-Obasi to ensure that all aspects of their health are adequately taken care of.

He commended the NOA for the good work they are doing in the state and for choosing Abia for their 48th National conference and Vision Expo, assuring them of government support.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Administrator, Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau EHMB, Dr Betty Emaka-Obasi lauded Governor Alex Otti for making the state to stand out as a key partner and trailblazer in the field of optometry development.

In her address, the state Chairman, National Optometry Association NOA, Dr Onyedikachi Ogbonna, commended the state government for prioritizing healthcare, especially in the renovation and retrofitting of General Hospital facilities across the state and expressed the hope that their collaboration with the state government will help in strengthening eye care services in the facilities.

Dr Ogbonna disclosed that the purpose of their visit is to intimate the state government on their forthcoming 48th National Conference and Vision Expo slated to hold in the state from the 23rd to 26th of July at the International Conference Centre Umuahia.

Also speaking, the Local Organizing Chairman of the 48th National Conference and Vision Expo of the National Optometry Association, Dr Joy Alozie explained that the conference which is an annual gathering of over 2,000 eye care practitioners, provides the opportunity to raise awareness within key audience about eye health and vision care especially within the host communities, also solicited government support.
