An octogenarian statesman, Chief Obioha Nwosu, has called on the people of Abia State to regard the re-election of Governor Alex Otti in 2027 as a collective responsibility, citing the Governor’s firm commitment to his manifesto and campaign promises.
Chief Nwosu made this known while addressing a large gathering of Labour Party stakeholders, members, and supporters of good governance from Ohiaocha Ward. The meeting was held at Ngodo Umunwanwa, Umuahia South, at the country home of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Policies and Interventions, Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru.
He noted that Governor Otti’s impressive track record within a short period in office speaks volumes about his leadership style and sincerity of purpose. The elder statesman recounted a lighthearted bet he had with a friend over whether the Governor would fulfill his promise to rehabilitate the long-abandoned Umuopara Ring Road.
Expressing delight, he stated that the project is now nearing completion, describing it as a testament to the Governor’s credibility.
According to him, in his many years of active service and political involvement, he has never witnessed a leader who keeps faith with campaign promises as consistently as Governor Otti.
Chief Nwosu therefore urged the people of Umuopara and Abians at large to rally round the Governor and sustain their support for his administration.
Earlier in his remarks, the convener of the meeting, Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, emphasized the need for grassroots mobilization. He encouraged residents of Ohiaocha Ward to sensitize their kith and kin on the importance of obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and taking advantage of the online platform to register as members of the Labour Party.
Also speaking, a former member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Chief Jerry Uzosike, reinforced the call for political awareness and participation among the people.
In their separate contributions, the Chief Protocol Officer to the Governor, Mr. Uche Nwosu; the Director-General of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia (BCA), Comrade Francis Nwaubani; and the Vice Chairman of Abia Warriors Football Club, Dennis Anokwuru, all urged the people to maintain their strong support for the Otti-led administration by securing their PVCs and party membership cards ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding on behalf of the community, former councillors including Enyinnaya Okonko, Ugochukwu Osuagwu, and Joy Anyanwu, as well as the immediate past President General of Umunwanwa Progressive Union, Chief Uzochukwu Anosike, expressed appreciation to the convener for organizing the timely meeting. They unanimously pledged their unalloyed support for Governor Otti’s progressive leadership and his re-election bid in 2027.
